Great morning fishing the Beaver Tailwaters.  Morning started out pretty cold, then the sun came out and it was beautiful.  Almost got warm enough to take off my jacket.  Then the wind picked up and the cloud cover came back and the temp dropped.  Didn’t get real cold, but it did a pretty drastic change in a couple hours.  Had a little rain when I go back to Rogers.

Fished the Spider Creek hole.  Started at the Bertrand Boat access and worked my way down through the main channel and finished down below the island.

Caught fish on lots of different flies today.  I started with a black midge with a peacock thorax and did pretty well.  I switched to a black midge with some black hackle tied on the thorax and caught some nice big fish with this combination.  Caught one really nice rainbow and caught the really nice brown trout that’s pictured above.  I haven’t dubbed or dressed the thorax very much before, but after the performance today of bigger fish, I think I will do that more.

Strong zebra midge patterns were Black, Purple, P&P, Wine and Rootbeer. Also did well on sub-mirco jigs in olive and black and a version of Davy Wooton’s Red Head Midge and Black one as well.

Happy Fishing and Stay Trout Tough!
