Learn To Fly Fish This Year

Fly fishing can seem intimidating, but with proper teaching and guidance by NWATROUT Fly Fishing as your guide, you will learn and experience the basics of fly fishing and create memories that will last a lifetime. ALL experience levels are welcomed and you can fish solo or with your family, friend or loved one.

I fish the White River near Eureka Springs Arkansas which is in Northwest Arkansas. It’s a beautiful setting nestled in the Ozarks where beauty abounds.

I provide all the equipment you need for an outing; waders, fly rod, and flies. Fishing license and trout stamp is not provided. I prefer to wade fish, but I have a river boat to use as well.

A typical outing starts around 7am where I meet you at Beaver Dam Store. We will validate or purchase your licenses here and then head to our destination on the White River. Our drive will be less than a mile to our destination. Once we arrive we will suit up in our fishing waders and make sure everything fits correctly and that you have the appropriate clothing for the heat and/or cold. We will then go over the basic mechanics of fly fishing and have you practice the base motions. We will then walk a couple hundred yards to our fishing location where we get in the water and start our catching.

Make sure you check the weather and water generation schedule before your trip to have a safe and happy trip and to help you make sure you have the appropriate clothing for the climate.

Equipment I use.

Fly Rod: I primarily use 9 foot 5 weight TFO Fly Rods. My favorite model is the BVK because it is such a work horse and easy to use. It can throw a small dry fly to a nice size streamer with ease. I also have the Pro II and Signature Series. I think TFO has the best price, value, warranty proposition on the market.

Waders: I use Simms, Magellan, and Cabela brands. I have sizes Youth medium, women’s and men’s sizes small to XL. I prefer Simms for my waders, but haven’t had a chance to upgrade all of them yet. All of my women’s waders are Simms. The Simms waders are far superior to the others. My personal waders are Simms G3.

Wading Boots: All my boots are Simms branded. They are clearly the best for being light, comfortable and durable. I have men’s sizes from 6 to 15.

Lines and Leaders: I use Rio, Cortland and Scientific Anglers fly line with Rio being my primary brand. For leaders I use Rio and Cortland with Cortland being my go to based on the price/value proposition. The tippet I use is always fluorocarbon. My top go to brand is P-Line but I also like Sunline and Seaguar.

Pack and Net: I use Fishpond brand nets and packs for my gear. They have the best price/vale and functionality.

Apparel: During the summer I use Huk long sleeve shirts to shield me from the sun. They are such great shirts to protect me and keep me cool at the same time. I have several different types and they are all outstanding. I wear custom embroidered ball caps from Outdoor Cap. During the winter my base layer is Russell thermal athletic wear found at Walmart. I have 3 brands of jackets I wear. I wear Columbia windproof jackets and rainwear when the temperature is mildly cold. When it’s cold I use my Patagonia Nano Puff. When it gets really cold I switch between my Patagonia Down Sweater and Marmot Highlander jackets. To cover my head I use Carhartt beanies and Buf and Junk neck gaiters.

Vehicles and Boats: To get to and from the river I drive a Toyota Tundra. It has been such a great truck. Powerful and comfortable at the same time. My boat is a Supreme 2000 with Mercury 20hp.

Flies and Lures: I tie most of my flies on a Regal or Renzetti vise using Tiemco hooks, UTC thread and wire, and Tungstead beads. I also purchase flies from PJ’s Jigs and Zig Jigs. I also use the following lures; Rapala , Berkeley, Blue Fox, Panther Martin.

Social Media: You can follow me on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Twitter and Google.
