Spent the last two weekends spending some quality time with the family on vacation this past week. All 3500 miles of it. We saw some amazing sites from Arkansas to San Antonio to Carlsbad,NM to Tucson to Phoenix to Grand Canyon to back home in Northwest Arkansas. It was a great trip!
I had the opportunity to stop into the Orvis Fly Shop in Dallas as one of my personal stops. Have to say, I was pretty disappointed in the stop. I thought it would have everything imaginable related to fly fishing, but it really only had the basics. Maybe I built up the expectation to high after 6 hours in the car, but there was nothing different than my local shops have to offer. There was a ton more clothing than I expected at prices significantly higher than I personally would pay. I like good quality stuff, actually I aspire to have good quality stuff, but I can’t bring myself to pay that much. I do have a good quality Marmot coat and good quality Patagonia down sweater, but the rest of my equipment is mostly Walmart and Academy branded goods. I truely believe you need to have a good quality outer layer that is wind and water resistant as a staple and you can layer underneath with quality garments that don’t have the big names and even bigger prices. I haven’t had any issues with that type of layering. The only issue I have is with keeping my hands warm. It was a nice stop, but not what I expected.
Happy Fishing and stay Trout Tough!
